CEBU CITY – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Region 7 (Central Visayas) kicked off its 2019 Regional Skills Competition on Wednesday TESDA-7 Regional Training Center administrator Winefredo Salas said the competition serves as a venue for recognizing the world-class competencies of young industry-skilled workers and graduates of technical-vocational schools and training institutions in Central Visayas. “One of our objectives is to give due recognition to brilliant young skilled workers in the region as well as to give them the chance to compete in the international arena,” Salas told the Philippine News Agency. Informatics Consolacion Senior High School student Joshua Del Campo, of Grade 12 Galileo Galilei Computer System Servicing Programming Day Class, made the school proud by winning the Silver Award at the TESDA Region 7 Regional Skills Competition in Web Design and Development held at the TESDA Regional last April 10 to 12, 2019. Winners in the regionals will advance to the Visayas-Mindanao Zonal eliminations, where they will vie for a slot in the national finals. National winners will represent the Philippines in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) competition slated next year in Singapore. Last February 23, 2019 at the Accenture Ideas Exchange Room in the Department of Computer Science, University of the Philippines Diliman, UP ACM once again held its annual inter-collegiate programming competition: ALGOLYMPICS 2019. The big game commenced with thirty teams accepting the challenge. With more than five hours of solving and executing grueling but exciting problem sets, three teams are named as this year’s winners. On its sixth year, the Algolympics is the annual flagship event of Association for Computing Machinery – UP Diliman Student Chapter that aims to gather students from different colleges and universities and to challenge them to solve various problems through programming. All teams were given twelve (12) stimulating problems to be solved within five (5) hours using the given contest environment. Teams will be ranked based on the number of problems solved as well as the amount of time they spend in coming up with a solution. 3rd Year Computer Science students of Informatics Eastwood, Vincent Garcia, Lea Daniel and Matthew Ong, used C, C++ and Java as the programming language to solve the problems. Informatics Baguio has dominated the IT sector with resounding victory in Graphics Technology, IT Solution for Business and Web Design and Development. These winners will represent the Cordillera in the oncoming Zonal Skills Competition later this year. Winners of the Zonal Competition will join the Philippine National Skills Competition and eventually to the 2020 ASEAN Skills Olympic in Singapore. Our goal this year is to make it to the 2020 ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore.
