Informatics Philippines is offering courses for students and professionals who want to get world-class skills in the shortest time. The school provides higher education in the fields of Information Technology and business, offering one-year or two-year diploma programs or bachelor degree programs which run for three or four years.

The school adopts the British system of education for its courses – its unique Ladderized Program allows students to acquire specialized skills in IT as early as their first year of study. A certificate of completion is awarded after every year, qualifying students to work immediately. A student can become a junior programmer or IT practitioner after his first year at Informatics. Each additional year will provide higher qualifications and more advanced skills that will pave the way for a high-end IT career in his chosen field. A student also has the option to take international exams every term in order to earn an international diploma when they graduate – this is validated by the National Computing Center (NCC) from Manchester, UK.

“Our Ladderized System helps students to be employed immediately or get part-time jobs while they are finishing their education. This is education you don’t just get anywhere,” enthuses Leo A. Riingen, Informatics President & CEO. “For us, an Informatics education is not just a great product, but it’s our way of empowering and enriching the lives of Filipino youth,” he adds. “With our system of education, by the time they graduate, the student can already be paying for his own tuition with a good-paying IT job. In as short as several months the students will have already earned back the same amount he spent as tuition for his degree.” Informatics Philippines, a franchise of the Informatics global group based in Singapore, is part of a network of more than 100 schools operating in 21 countries around the world.

Informatics, the country’s leading IT school, forged a partnership with industry giant Sun Microsystems to offer its students Sun Microsystems certification courses and officially become an Authorized Sun Education Center (ASEC).

“Informatics is always thinking of improving its course offerings and quality of education,” said assistant vice president, Yoli Soliveres. “We would like to give our students the best from-the-source education and the best way to do this is to partner with the technology provider itself.”

Sun Microsystems is the creator of the Java technology, which is an in demand skill to acquire in today’s technology driven industries.

With ASEC, Informatics students now have access to the latest Sun technologies and the highest quality instruction through its Sun Java Certified Instructors, and curriculum that lead to Sun Java Programming certification.

“This is proof of Informatics’ and Sun Microsystems’ commitment to making Filipinos globally competitive. We want to position our country as a center for e-services in Asia,” declared Sun managing director, Dr. Cynthia Mamon.

Competitive businesses these days prefer employees who have certification on specialized areas like programming. Even IT professionals recognize the benefits of becoming certified like added credibility, higher employability, career improvement, and becoming more productive in the workplace.

Informatics is providing Linux programmer-wannabes with the fastest and most effective way of training- doing real world web application projects! The complete course, aptly named Open Source Web Developer, consists of five modules, each focusing on specific web technologies.

Fast track learning of HTML, XHTML, and CSS is taught in module one. Then JavaScript’s application to web is covered in module two. And as most web applications make use of database servers, practical database concepts using MySQL are covered intensively in module three. Having already learned programming on the client side with JavaScript, the student then moves on to doing server side programming using one of the hottest scripting language today – PHP. And finally, the student learns to set up his website on a web server hosted on a Linux platform. Basic configuration and set up of the Apache web server is learned in the fifth and final module.

The course differs greatly from its counterpart offerings in other schools on one significant point – certification of training will require the student’s development and presentation of a real-world web application project, which he or she has actually developed on his or her own. On top of this project development, the student will be required to pass an online examination that will test his or her understanding of the techonologies as taught in the course modules.

What is LAMP?

LAMP stands for Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP. LAMP is a collection of Open Source applications that have been used together as the framework in building and running a website.

Linux is the Operating System.

Apache is the Web Server

MySQL is the SQL Database Management System

PHP is the programming language for the server-side application software

The software applications in the LAMP stack may be freely downloaded from the Internet.

Why is LAMP popular?

In an article posted on royal.pingdom.com, it is mentioned that nine out of the ten largest websites – Flickr, YouTube, PlentyOfFish, Digg, TypePad, LiveJournal, Friendster, MySpace, Wikipedia.- uses the LAMP stack in running their websites.

Quick Overview

OS: Linux 7 – Windows 2

Web server: Apache 7 – IIS 2 – Lighttpd 2

Scripting: PHP 4 – Perl 4 – ASP.NET 2 – Python 1 – Java 1

Database: MySQL 7 – SQL Server 1 (possibly 2)

LAMP has been a popular choice in web development because of its flexibility (open source applications continually evolve) and because these tools are free. The fact that high traffic enterprise websites, like the ones mentioned earlier, use the LAMP stack as their backbone would only attest to the popularity and reliability of using LAMP.

So with LAMP being the No.1 platform for web development, what does it hold then for the budding web developers? Let us see.

What is the average salary for a LAMP Web Developer?

Acquiring a business degree is good, but a business and IT expertise is even better.

In today’s technology driven industries, companies are constantly looking for people who are highly equipped to handle the challenges of a continuously changing business climate.

Informatics launches the Executive IT Program, a cluster of international courses specially designed for working professionals who want to acquire updated information and communications technology (ICT) skills, which are on high demand in the job industry.

Unlike in traditional colleges and universities, the Executive Program allows the learners to choose modules they are most interested in and earn an international certificate upon completion.

Furthermore, the program enables one to accumulate, over the course of time, sufficient credit to be awarded a formal qualification of a Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, and a Masters Degree.

The Master of Science in Strategic Business IT, awarded by Informatics partner University of Portsmouth of UK, is the program’s prime offering. Industries today are in the lookout for people who can demonstrate how the use of IT can facilitate a competitive advantage for the organization. Thus, this requires that graduates attain the necessary skills in Business Management, integrated logistics as well as IT activities.

The Masters degree is projects-centered and students may avail of this course through the blended learning approach scheme. That is a combination of online learning, and minimal sessions with lecturers.

In fact all courses under the Executive IT Program are internationally certified and use the blended learning approach making it much easier for learners to study at a flexible schedule. A key feature that many busy office workers would find appealing.

Informatics continues to find ways of bringing globally recognized education to Filipinos. For more details and complete course list under the Executive IT Program, visit the nearest Informatics Center in your area.
